In 2009, with the support of the International Fulbright Science and Technology Award, Zi Jing Wong joined Professor Xiang Zhang’s Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley to pursue doctoral studies in Metamaterials and Nanophotonics.
Zi Jing grew up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and graduated top of his Aeronautical Engineering class at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). In addition, he was awarded the Royal Education Award, the highest honor given to the university’s best student overall. Subsequently, he completed his Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), where he earned the Best Thesis Award.
Zi Jing is an avid chess player who, at the age of 16, began representing Malaysia in international chess tournaments. Zi Jing is now an International Master in chess.
