Iraq (Fulbright S&T awardee 2011)
Watheq Al-Mudhafar is pursuing his Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering at Louisiana State University. With the support of the International Fulbright Science & Technology Award, he is conducting research on the utilization of reservoir simulation methods and optimization techniques in order to achieve optimal field development by projecting future oil fields according to increased oil production and Net Present value.
A native of Iraq, Watheq received a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in petroleum engineering from Baghdad University. Following graduation, he worked for six years as a senior reservoir engineer for the South Oil Company, the largest petroleum exploration and production company in Iraq. At the South Oil Company, he prepared reservoir simulation studies in order to determine the optimal future reservoir performance. In addition, he has participated in various international oil and gas conferences and exhibitions. Watheq has presented four papers at events in India, China, Trinidad & Tobago, and Bahrain, and worked to establish the first section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers in Iraq, of which he is the chairperson. He is also an active member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the Iraqi Engineers Society.
