Bangladesh (Fulbright S&T Alumnus 2011)
Mr. Syed Ishtiaque Ahmed is pursuing his Ph.D. in Information Science in Cornell University, New York. His 2011 International Fulbright Science & Technology Award supports research in Artificial Intelligence and Human-Computer Interaction. He investigates the intersections of science and human life and tries to develop efficient technologies to improve the quality of life of general population.
A native of Bangladesh, Syed Ishtiaque, received both the undergraduate and Master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Toward the end of undergraduate study, he focused on optimization problems of Computational Geometry. Later, his research interested shifted toward the applied facets of computer science. Prior to entering BUET, he topped the merit list of Notre Dame College, the best college for Science in Dhaka at Higher Secondary level (U.S. Grade 12 Standard). When he was younger, he enjoyed his opportunity to attend the Ideal School & College, one of the most revered high schools in the country.
Syed Ishtiaque led a research group called, Human-Technology Interaction (HTI), where he would address different problems found in Bangladeshi communities and develop solutions with the help of technologies. He also launched and still maintains the open source digital map making initiative in Bangladesh. He has written a number of articles in international journals and conference proceedings.
