India (Fulbright S&T awardee 2011)
Pulkit Agrawal is pursuing doctoral studies in the department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at University of California, Berkeley. On a broad level, his research is focused on understanding how the brain works; and, more specifically, in uncovering how ideas/concepts are represented in neural circuits. The knowledge gained is likely to be very useful in developing neural prosthesis which would enable better quality of life by advancing opportunities for people with disabilities. The results of Pilkit’s investigation are expected to aid the design of artificially intelligent agents. His research will also have applications for the development of a new paradigm for controlling machines using thought.
Pulkit is a native of India. Prior to receiving the 2011 International Fulbright Science & Technology Award, he pursued his undergraduate studies from the department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Kanpur and was awarded the Director’s Gold medal on graduation. He served as the General Secretary of Science and Technology Council of the Student’s Gymkhana of IIT Kanpur in his senior year with the agenda of promoting technology as a form of art. Previously, he has been named the Goldman Sachs Global Leader (2009) and OP Jindal Engineering and Management Scholar (2009).
