Lamiaa El-Shennawy is a Ph.D. candidate in Biopharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is interested in molecular biology, molecular pharmacology, pharmacogenomics and pharmacogenetics as applied to cancer research.
Lamiaa’s research will increase the understanding of the molecular biology and the pharmacology of cancer, tumor cell drug resistance, and possibilities for overcoming resistance. She wants to identify ways to help spare cancer patients the agony of the toxicity, side effects, and resistance that they experience throughout cancer therapy.
A native of Egypt, prior to traveling to Chicago as an International Fulbright Science & Technology Fellow, Lamiaa received both her undergraduate and Master’s degree from the University of Alexandria. She also served as an assistant lecturer at the Institute of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Alexandria.
