Hassan Al-Haj is pursuing a Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science and Language Technology Institute as an International Fulbright Science and Technology Fellow. His work involves automatic spoken language translation enabling cross-lingual, human-to-human communication.
Born in Haifa, Israel, Hassan graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the Israel Institute of Technion in 2004. Hassan received a Master’s in Computer Science at the University of Haifa. His thesis was titled “Hebrew Multiworld Expressions.” While in graduate school, he worked as a research assistant at the Caesarea Edmond de Rothschild Foundation Institute for Interdisciplinary Applications of Computer Science (CRI). Hassan has been twice granted the Computer Science Academic Excellence Scholarship in honor of Captain Uri Akavia, the most prestigious scholarship awarded by the University of Haifa’s Computer Science Department.
