Dovan Rai is an International Fulbright Science & Technology Fellow from Nepal. She is a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, Massachusetts. At WPI, she researches learning technologies and focuses on multimedia tutors and educational games.
She is interested in designing, building, and analyzing learning environments that help improve students’ motivation and learning. It is her hope and belief that ongoing technological advancements can bridge the existing technological gap between communities with and without access to computers. Computer tutors can help disadvantaged children such as those in her home village in Nepal, where books and human expertise are expensive and inaccessible.
Prior to coming to the United States, she completed her undergraduate degree in Electronics Engineering from Pulchowk campus and a Master’s degree in Sociology from Tribhuwan University. After finishing her undergraduate degree, she worked as a software engineer, a graphic designer, and a teacher at an engineering college. She also has contributed op-ed articles to newspapers in Nepal.
