Turkey (Fulbright S&T awardee 2011)
Beliz Ugurhan is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University supported by the 2011 International Fulbright Science & Technology Award. She is passionate about studying earthquakes with the aim of minimizing the destructive effects they cause to humanity. The interdisciplinary boundary between earth science and civil engineering is the focus of her research. Her research interests include earthquake engineering, probabilistic modeling, engineering seismology and earth science.
Born in Turkey, Beliz received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Dept. of Civil Engineering at Middle East Technical University, Ankara. She worked there as a research assistant for three years participating in several national and international research projects. Besides her professional background, Beliz is a ballroom dancer specializing in International Latin.
