Mauritius | Fulbright S&T awardee 2009 | University of Utah | Graphic and Visualization
Pascal Grosset is a Ph.D. candidate in Graphic and Visualization at the University of Utah in the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute. He is investigating volume rendering and high performance computing using Graphics Processing Units (GPUs).
Volume rendering is like having X-ray vision; allowing one to see within three-dimensional datasets. Through the use of new transfer functions, Pascal hopes to find ways to help scientists identify hidden features and thus to better understand these datasets.
A native of Mauritius, Pascal received his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Mauritius and his Master’s degree in Computer Graphics from the University of Teeside in England. He then worked at the University of Mauritius for four years prior to being named a recipient of the International Fulbright Science & Technology Award and traveling to the United States. Pascal has always enjoyed hiking and playing soccer and, since he has arrived in Utah, has discovered an interest in snow skiing.
