André is a software engineer at Google, Inc. His current work focuses on computer vision and machine learning. André obtained his PhD in electrical engineering at Stanford University, working on image and video retrieval, under the supervision of Prof. Bernd Girod. During his time at Stanford, André also worked on image classification and compression.
André is a Fulbright Science & Technology Scholar and an Accel Innovation Scholar. On the science outreach side, he co-founded and was an editor of The Global Scientist online magazine. A native of Brazil, André received a Bachelor’s degree with honors from the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon in France as well as Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Campinas in Brazil.
